Dan Johnson has long served as an advisor, mentor, coach and consultant in higher education, program development, strategic planning, leadership, public policies, and related areas. More recently, Johnson has assisted individuals and organization in with interests in the globalization of higher education, raising education attainment and developing collaborative relationships.

Economic Development

One of the the themes running through Dan’s leadership has focussed on ways universities impact local and regional economies. It became a serious study in recent years resulting in his latest book, Leading Economic Development. Praised by public officials, this book is a useful text for workshops, seminars and training sessions for public officials and civic leaders.

Strategic Planning

Strategic planning is now a normal, regular function in all types of organizations. Dan’s years of leadership in higher education has tested his strategic planning knowledge and skills. In addition to universities, he has helped lead numerous organizations through their own strategic planning processes with a strong emphasis on followthrough and implementation.

Finding just the right President, CEO, VP, or Director for key leadership positions is one of the most important functions of boards of directors or trustees. Executive search firms are often the best approach to searches; they bring knowledge, professionalism and experience. However, there often remains unmet needs for assistance in helping boards select the right search firm, interacting with the consultants, and asking just the right questions throughout the process. Dan is able to assist boards as they move through these sometimes difficult processes.
